Tariq Arian, a spokesman for the Afghan Ministry of Interior Affairs (MoI), said Tuesday that more than 60 civilians have been killed and over 164 others injured in Taliban attacks and bombings during the first 22 days of the year.
Women and children had been also among the victims, according to the spokesman.
Voicing concern over an escalation in civilian casualties, Mr. Arian said the Taliban group has not fulfilled any of its promises to reduce violence.
The recently scaled up violence have gripped the country already ravaged by decades-long war.
The group’s officials have not yet commented but had issued denial to similar reports.
