In a Ramadan message, President Ghani on Monday offered a ceasefire for Taliban during the holy month of Ramadan, calling on the group to end the violence and accept a truce.
President Ashraf Ghani emphasized he will seize the opportunity to ensure a just and sustainable peace in the country.
It comes a day after Taliban backed out of participation in and announced they were not ready for an upcoming Turkey-hosted peace summit on Afghanistan likely to take place in comings days.
Mohammad Naeem, spokesman for the Taliban political office in Qatar, said the group was still deliberating in this regard.
A U.S.-backed peace conference on Afghanistan is set to take place on April 16 in Istanbul, Turkey.
The conference is said to last for ten days.
