Armed Taliban on Sunday morning stormed on security outposts in outskirts of Ishkamesh district and Khaja Bandkusha village in northern Takhar province, said police spokesman Khalil Aseer.
The attacks were fended off, according to the spokesman, killing six Taliban fighters.
Abdullah Naseri, known as Obaida, a key Taliban commander was among six militants killed in clashes.
Several others were wounded in the attack, the police spokesman added.
There was no immediate comment from the Taliban.
