Afghan President Departs for Official Visit to Tajikistan

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Monday morning left Kabul for a two-day official visit to the Tajik capital of Dushanbe, his office said.

He will attend the ninth foreign ministerial conference of Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process, according to presidential statement.

President Ghani will also meet with his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon, the country’s Prime Minister and other officials, it said, to discuss bilateral ties between the two neighboring countries.

According to the statement, Afghan President will also visit the Tajik National University where he will receive an honorary Doctoral degree from its chancellor.

The Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process was an initiative of Afghanistan and Turkey, which was launched at a conference hosted by Istanbul back in 2011.

It is a platform for promoting regional security, economic and political cooperation centered on Afghanistan through dialogue.
