Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, chairman of Afghanistan’s High Council for National Reconciliation, and a number of Afghan political leaders traveled to France to attend a ceremony in which Afghan national hero Ahmad Shah Massoud will be honored with placing a plaque in Paris city.

During his stay in France, chairman of the peace council, who oversees the government peace talks with the Taliban, met with French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean Jean-Yves Le Drian, discussing the Afghan peace process.

According to a statement by Abdullah’s office, bilateral ties between Afghanistan and France, the upcoming Turkey conference on the Afghan peace process as well as regional and international support for the peace efforts were the meeting deliberations.

Dr. Abdullah hailed France’s support for Afghanistan’s peace process and the country’s decision to honor Afghan national hero Ahmad Shah Massoud with a plaque in the city.

The Council of Paris had unanimously voted to place a plaque in the 8th district of Paris to honor late national hero Ahmad Shah Massoud 20 years after his assassination by the al-Qaeda operatives.
