In a statement released Saturday, the Ministry of Defense said Afghan forces carried out attacks on outposts belonging to Alipour’s armed men in Behsood, a district in central Maidan Wardak province.
At least 12 of the local commander’s men were killed and another six wounded in Afghan forces raids.
The attack follows a helicopter crash in Behsood district on Thursday that killed at least nine military personnel. Four flight crew and five security personnel were killed in the crash.
Later on Saturday, Afghan government officials blamed Alipour for downing the chopper and vowed to take retaliation.
