In a statement released Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said that the two sides discussed the outcomes of the Afghan peace summit in the Russian capital of Moscow, where envoys from the U.S., Russia, China and Pakistan as well as an Afghan delegation and a 10-member Taliban delegation attended. They also exchanged views on the expected outcomes of the upcoming Istanbul meeting on Afghanistan peace process.
The neighboring Pakistan that joined other countries in the “Extended Troika” summit in Moscow on Thursday announced it will also take part in a high-level meeting which will be hosted by Turkey in April.
Earlier, Turkey announced it will host a meeting on Afghanistan peace process in April. The Afghan government confirmed it will attend the upcoming conference.
The Taliban, however, has not disclosed whether or not it will attend the proposed meeting in Turkey.
It comes as in a joint declaration by the “Extended Troika” at the end of the Moscow summit, the United States, Russia, China and Pakistan said they did not support restoration of an Islamic Emirate.
The Taliban delegation, however, renewed its calls for an Islamic system, saying a ceasefire will be reached only after an Islamic system establishes in the country.
