Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, chairman of the reconciliation council, said in a statement on Saturday that the decision was against what was agreed in a power share deal reached with Afghan President on May last year.

“The decision in the current situation was against national interests and was unacceptable,” according to the statement.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Friday dismissed Mohammad Massoud Andarabi from his post as interior minister, according to a statement by the National Security Council.

Mr. Andarabi was replaced by Hayatullah Hayat, former governor of southern Kandahar province.

Ayoub Salangi was appointed as the ministry’s first deputy.

The new replacements were announced to bring reforms, improve the security situation in the country, protect civilians and to better implement the self-sufficiency plan, according to the NSC.

Under another decree, the President has made a replacement to the post of defense minister. According to the NSC’s statement, General Yasin Zia has been appointed as acting defense minister replacing General Assadullah Khalid.

According to the statement, General Zia will hold the post until former minister Khalid gets recovered and returns home.

Under a political agreement inked between Abdullah Abdullah and President Ghani, Dr. Abdullah chairs the Afghanistan High Council for National Reconciliation and has a power-share of 50% of the cabinet.

Mohammad Massoud Andarabi was suggested by Dr. Abdullah for the Ministry of Interior. He received votes of confidence from the lower house of parliament and took office as interior minister.
