A statement released by the office of President Ghani on Monday said that U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation met with President Ashraf Ghani, briefing him on his recent trips to regional countries.
Both discussed the Afghan peace process and further steps, the statement read.
Ambassador Khalilzad also met with Afghan peace broker Abdullah Abdullah, who is the chairperson of High Council for National Reconciliation to oversee government negotiation team in the talks with the Taliban.
According to a statement by Dr. Abdullah’s office, upcoming conferences in Russia and Turkey which will be held on Afghanistan, the latest progresses in the peace process, the Doha talks as well as reduction in violence were the meeting deliberations.
The upcoming Moscow conference on Afghanistan will be held on March 18. Another conference will be hosted by Turkey in on April.
The U.S. State Department has said that its special envoy for the Afghan peace process will attend the Moscow conference.
It has once again revived hope among the war weary people.
