Mr. Lavrov made the remarks Friday at meeting with his Afghan counterpart Mohammad Hanif Atmar who was in Russia upon an official visit to the country.

The Taliban removal from blacklist requires the group to make progresses in the peace negotiations, said Russian Foreign Minister cited by Afghan Ministry of Foreign Ministry.

Mohammad Hanif Atmar, Afghan Foreign Minister, meanwhile, reiterated the role of Russia in Afghanistan’s peace process, calling it important.

In a joint press conference, FM Atmar hailed Russia’s stance on the Afghan peace process as well as its position that it did not support the Emirate.

On February 24, Afghan Foreign Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar departed for travel to Moscow upon an official invitation from his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.

The visit comes weeks after Russia’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov said in an interview with Sputnik that Moscow prefers that all parties to the conflict in Afghanistan agree on the establishment of an inclusive and transitional coalition government.

The Russian envoy also said that the Taliban were “almost flawless” in fulfilling their promises with the United States.

But the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs in response to Kabulov’s remarks said that some of Russian envoy’s views were “inconsistent with the current realities of Afghanistan and, in many cases, contradict the official statements of the friendly country of Russia.”
