Armed Taliban on Tuesday evening around 6:00pm local time pulled Narmgo out of his car and killed him, said provincial police spokesman Ahmad Jawed Besharat.

Narmgo was killed near Street 5 of provincial sugar factory as he left Central Baghlan district for his home, the spokesman said.

The Afghan press freedom organization, NAI or Supporting Open Media in Afghanistan, in a statement released Tuesday night said Narmgo’s death has widened scale of serial killers in the country.

Abdul Mujib Khlevatgar, executive director of NAI, warned of an extensive damage to freedom of expression if government fails to prevent targeted assassinations.

Targeted killings have soared amid Doha peace negotiations.

Sayed Akbar Agha, political expert, said Afghanistan’s peace process has taken a new form.

The U.S. new administration under President Biden has cast doubt on the Afghan peace process, he said, and this has made Taliban to be reluctant.

According to the data published by Afghanistan’s supporting open media organization, as many as eight journalists have been killed in Afghanistan in the past few months.
