The vaccine campaign has been kicked off in other provinces too.

According to health officials in the Afghan eastern province of Nangarhar, as many as 24,620 shots of COVID-19 vaccine has been distributed for the province to inoculate 12,310 people, giving everyone two doses.

Nasir Ahmad Durani, head of the provincial health department, said on Wednesday that healthcare workers as well as Afghan military personnel will be the first to receive the shots.

Babrak Miakhel, deputy governor for eastern Afghan province, has meanwhile said efforts will hereafter be put to administer the vaccine to educational institutions and other eligible people in the province.

Residents of the province although are happy, they are, however, concerned over fair vaccination.

Health authorities, however, ensure that people will be vaccinated in a transparent manner.

Earlier this month, the south Asian country torn by decades-long war and violence which have devastated its healthcare infrastructure received 500,000 doses of AstraZeneca/Oxford University vaccine developed by Serum Institute of India for low- and mid-income nations.

The country launched its vaccination campaign against the coronavirus pandemic on Tuesday, with representatives from healthcare, media and Afghan forces receiving the first shots.
