The National Directorate of Security (NDS) said in a statement on Sunday that five members of a joint IS-Haqqani network cell have been arrested near the capital’s 17th district.
They were each Jawed, Ahmad Murid, Rohullah, Abdul Hafiz, and Abdul Jabar who were behind major attacks in Kabul, including a rocket attack on a gathering marking the anniversary of the death of Abdul Ali Mazari, an ethnic Hazara leader who was killed after being held as hostage by Taliban fighters.
The Daesh-Haqqani cell was also behind rocket attacks on Bagram Airfield as well as on Hamid Karzai International Airport.
The country’s spy agency added that it had also identified other cells carrying out terrorist attacks and will arrest them at the earliest.
Afghan officials have constantly accused the Haqqani network of ties with the Taliban.
