In a statement, the Afghan Ministry of Defense announced nine Taliban fighters were killed Friday in Afghan forces operation in Maiwand, Panjwai and Arghandab districts of southern Kandahar province.
It added that seven other militants were killed in Uruzgan province.
As many as 167 mines were also found and defused, it further read.
The Taliban officials have yet to comment.
