Chief of Pentagon Mr. Austin praised the sacrifices Afghan forces have made.
He added the United States supports the peace process which is in interest of Afghans and leads to a lasting ceasefire.
During the phone call, First Vice President Amrullah Saleh and President’s National Security Adviser Hamdullah Mohib also briefed U.S. Secretary of Defense on security and defense sectors.
Earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken also held a phone call with President Ghani and discussed the Afghan peace process and related issues.
