Armed Taliban planned to attack Afghan National Army “positions” in northern Balkh province, Hanif Rezaiee, spokesman for the 209th Shaheen Army Corps said.
But Afghan special and commando forces targeted the militants, killing at least 12 Taliban militants and capturing another two.
The Taliban however claimed at least three civilians were killed in raids carried out by Afghan forces in Chaharbolak district of the province.
