Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday evening met with U.S. Chargé da’Affaires Ross Wilson and commander of USFOR-Afghanistan Gen. Scott Miller at palace, where General Miller briefed President on his recent visit to Doha, said Presidential Palace.
According to president’s office, the two sides also discussed the Afghan peace process, the pledges made at the Geneva Conference and Afghanistan’s relations with the new U.S. administration.
The meeting came just as Biden’s inauguration ceremony was ongoing at U.S. Capitol to make him the 46th president of the United States.
Earlier, Antony Blinken, President-elect Joe Biden’s nominee for State Department, made it clear that the Biden team has not been given much visibility on the agreement Secretary Pompeo and the Trump administration negotiated with the Taliban.
The Biden team will “look closely at what has been negotiated there […] to understand fully what commitments were made and not made by the Taliban,” Mr. Blinken said.
