The Director-General for Public and Strategic Affairs, Waheed Omar, said at an addressing that negotiation team representing the Islamic Republic was ready for discussions to be come up with a conclusion, but the other side of the negotiating table has yet to give visibility on state, women and media.

Mr. Omar added in his remarks that the Afghan government was not willing to release more Taliban prisoners because release of the Taliban who had already been set free by the Afghan government aimed to bring down the level of violence in the country. It instead intensified hostilities, he said.

Speaking about the U.S.-brokered peace deal signed between the United States and the Taliban on late February last year, President’s adviser said he hopes the new administration in the U.S. in coordination with the Afghan government will work on peace.

It is good that the new U.S. administration is going to reconsider the Doha deal it struck with the Taliban on February, said Mr. Omar.

Earlier on Tuesday [U.S. time], Antony Blinken, President-elect Joe Biden’s nominee for State Department, made it clear that the Biden team hasn’t been given much visibility on the agreement Pompeo and the Trump administration negotiated with the Taliban, which nevertheless has continued to wreak violence on Afghans.

The Biden team will “look closely at what’s been negotiated there […] to understand fully what commitments were made and not made by the Taliban,” Mr. Blinken said.

He added, “I don’t believe any agreement is sustainable without protecting gains by women and girls over the last 20 years.”
