Afghan NSC Assigns Delegation for Probing into Killing of Ghor’s Provincial Council Member

A local provincial council member was killed Thursday in clashes with Afghan forces which erupted after he opened fire at government forces trying to arrest him for involvement in murder, the Afghan spy agency announced in a statement.

Afghan NSC Assigns Delegation for Probing into Killing of Ghor’s Provincial Council Member

Following the death of Ezatullah Bek, a member of Ghor’s provincial council, who was killed in clashes with Afghan national security forces, the National Security Council (NSC) announced it has assigned a delegation to thoroughly probe into the incident during which a member of security forces was also killed. 

According to a statement of the Afghan security council, at President Ghani’s order, a delegation headed by Mohammad Hameed Tahmasi, chief auditor of the NSC, will depart to Feroz Koh city—the western Ghor’s provincial capital to further investigate into the matter.

Afghanistan’s intelligence agency—the National Directorate of Security—announced in a statement Thursday that its special forces have killed Ezatullah Bek, member of Ghor’s provincial council, in the capital Feroz Koh city after he opened fire at government forces who were trying to capture him on charges of involvement in assassination.

Bek was involved in several terrorist attacks, including targeted assassinations and serial murders, transferring developed weapons to the Taliban and financially support them, and training to use sticky bombs, statement elaborated further. 

According to the statement, Bek was also involved in the murder of Abdul Rahman Atshan, the deputy head of Ghor’s provincial council, and Bismellah Adel Aimaq, a local journalist and editor-in-chief of Sadai Ghor (Voice of Ghor) radio whose murder plots were carried out by the Bek’s men and armed Taliban.

 

There was no immediate comment from the Taliban.
