Sources from the Islamic Republic and the Taliban negotiation teams earlier told Reuters that progresses on the Afghan peace process had stalled as the two sides wait for President-elect Joe Biden’s decision—whether he will adhere to the outgoing President Trump’s troops withdrawal schedule.
Fraidoon Khwazoon, spokesman for the Afghan High Council for National Reconciliation, however, denied it and added that both negotiation teams were working to prepare and unify an agenda for the peace talks.
Representatives of the Afghan government and the Taliban began the second round of peace negotiations Saturday this week. Since then, they have held some meetings to prepare the agenda.
According to sources, some members of the Islamic Republic and of the Taliban negotiating teams were not yet in Doha.
