Afghanistan’s intelligence agency—the National Directorate of Security—announced in a statement Thursday that its special forces have killed Ezatullah Bek, member of Ghor’s provincial council, in the capital Feroz Koh city after he opened fire at government forces who were trying to capture him on charges of involvement in assassination.
According to the statement, Bek was involved in the murder of Abdul Rahman Atshan, the deputy head of Ghor’s provincial council, and Bismellah Adel Aimaq, a local journalist and editor-in-chief of Sadai Ghor (Voice of Ghor) radio.
The statement did not elaborate further.
Sources, however, said at least one member of the security forces was killed and another two wounded during the clash.
