A suicide bomber named Mohammad Hazrat was arrested by government national security forces Monday in the seventh district of Jalalabad city before hitting his target, Nangarhar’s governor Ziaulhaq Amarkhil took to Twitter.
The arrested man has confessed to carrying out deadly attack in the province, the governor added.
Earlier on Monday, Afghan security forces arrested five members of a network grouping Haqqani militants in Paktika province.
According to a statement by the Afghan spy agency—the National Directorate of Security—Naqibullah, who was responsible for relationships with Pakistan’s Inter-Service Intelligence (ISI), was arrested along with four other militants being tasked with carrying out targeted killings and terrorist attacks in Paktia and Paktika provinces.
No armed group has commented so far.
