Karim Khalili Arrives to Pakistan

In a statement on Sunday, the Foreign Ministry of Pakistan said the former Vice President Karim Khalili will stay in Pakistan for a two-day visit where he will call on Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmoud Qureshi and other senior government officials.

“The visit of Ustad Karim Khalili is part of Pakistan’s ongoing policy to reach out to political leadership in Afghanistan to forge common understanding on the Afghan peace process and deepen people-to-people linkages,” read the statement.

“Pakistan remains steadfast in its support for an inclusive, broad-based and comprehensive political solution of the conflict in Afghanistan through an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned peace process,” it added.

The visit to discuss the Afghan peace process comes as the Afghan government’s peace negotiation team met with the Taliban representatives Saturday this week to resume peace talks with the Taliban after a three-week break.

In the first round of talks which lasted for three months, negotiators from the two sides agreed on a code of conduct for the talks.
