In the meeting, where U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Ross Wilson and Commander of Resolute Support Gen. Scott Miller also attended, Dr. Abdullah and Ambassador Khalilzad discussed recent progresses in the Afghan peace process, the second round of peace negotiations in Doha as well as reduction in violence in the country.

The office of reconciliation council quoted Dr. Abdullah saying efforts will be put to seize the opportunity for a lasting peace in the country.

He called the high levels of violence and targeted assassinations “unacceptable”, reiterating his calls for ceasefire leading to a lasting peace in the war-torn country.

The United States special envoy also expressed concern over the spate of violence in the country and called them unacceptable, urging the two sides to seize the opportunity for ending the decades-long war and violence.

During the meeting, the two sides also discussed U.S. supports for Afghanistan’s peace process.

It comes as the country gripped with decades-long war is still witnessing high levels of violence amid peace efforts of the negotiators from the government and the Taliban.

Following a three-week break, Afghan government peace negotiators left Kabul Tuesday for Doha to begin the next round of peace talks. The talks were paused to seek internal consultations
