The Afghan government will depart for travel to Doha Tuesday as they prepare for the next round of peace talks with the Taliban, said Fawzia Koofi, government’s top peace negotiator, speaking at a press conference Monday.
Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, who chairs the High Council for National Reconciliation, also confirmed on Twitter that the Afghan peace negotiation team will travel to Doha on January 5 as it was scheduled.
He made the remarks at the peace council’s third Leadership Committee meeting held with the government negotiation team Monday ahead of government representatives’ fly to Doha.
According to HCNR’s chairperson, participants of the meeting discussed latest progresses in the peace process, with the high peace council providing a clear guideline for the government negotiators for the next round of the peace talks.
He Dr. Abdullah assured the negotiators of the Republic’s supports and thanked the international community for supporting the Afghan peace process and Qatar for hosting the talks.
Chairman of the peace council reaffirmed government’s commitment for peace and asked the Taliban too to live up to their commitments.
