Three members of the Afghan Senate—Mohammad Anwar Bashliq, Mohammad Azim Qoyash and Liyaqatullah Babakarkhil—who were tasked for inspecting custom offices in the northern Balkh province were detained earlier on December while accepting some $40,000 in bribe.
The Office of Attorney General said the lawmakers were released after Afghanistan’s upper house of the National Assembly opposed to their imprisonment, dismissing to approve their detention.
Jamshid Rasooli, spokesman for the Office of Attorney General, said the matter was under investigation.
It comes as President Ghani had earlier dismissed two of the lawmakers—Mohammad Anwar Bashliq and Liaqatullan Babakarkhil— following their arrest over corruption charges.
