Speaking at the Senate (the Upper House of National Assembly), Ahmad Zia Siraj, chief of Afghanistan’s spy agency—the National Directorate of Security—said these suspects have been arrested in December last year to December 2020, among whom 270 were involved in targeted killings.
According to NDS chief, at least seven suspects arrested by Afghan forces have been captured before carrying out suicide attacks.
At least 18,200 attacks have been carried out within the past ten months in Afghanistan, according to Mr. Siraj, and the Taliban were responsible for 99% of these attacks.
The IS/Daesh was responsible for only one percent of the attacks, he continued.
A surge of targeted killings and bomb attacks, often without being claimed, has gripped Afghanistan in recent days, with violence having dramatically increased despite peace efforts.
The Taliban have constantly denied to be behind these attacks while the government have been pointing the blame at this group.
The attacks, however, have prompted people’s outcry who accuse government of failing to protect its citizens.
