Speaking at the second meeting of high peace council’s Leadership Committee, Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, who chairs the council, said the venue for the next rounds of intra-Afghan talks should not cause delays in the start of negotiations.
“The negotiation will resume on January 5, and the venue for the talks should not be an obstacle,” said Dr. Abdullah at the meeting.
There is strong will—at national, regional and international levels—for the success of Afghanistan peace process, according to chairperson of the reconciliation council.
Head of Afghan government negotiating team, Masoom Stanikzai, meanwhile said that government negotiators have put considerable efforts during the past three months of talks with the Taliban in Doha.
The most considerable work of the government negotiating team has been to question whether the ongoing war has consistency with Sharia laws of Islam, Mr. Stanikzai said.
The Afghan government and the Taliban have been engaged in direct talks since September in Doha, Qatar, where the Taliban have their political office.
The two negotiating sides agreed on a 20 days off after nearly three months of negotiations between the two sides.
The next round of talks will be held on January of next year.
