The European Union has urged for a “transparent and thorough investigations” into recent attacks in Afghanistan which targeted journalists, human rights defenders, members of the civil society and the public servants who were killed in “a trend of systematic targeted” attacks and assassinations over the course of last one month, said the statement by EU commission spokeswoman.
“The last months in Afghanistan have seen a worrying trend of systematic targeted attacks and killings of journalists, human rights defenders, civil society representatives and civil servants,” read the statement.
“The European Union expects transparent and thorough investigations of all these attacks and assassinations,” the spokeswoman said, adding, “the perpetrators and those ordering these crimes, regardless of affiliation, should held accountable in fair trials.”
Over the period of last one month, Afghanistan witnessed a rise in targeted killing and assassinations.
The murder of Yousuf Rasheed, head of the election monitoring watchdog, the Free and Fair Election Forum of Afghanistan (FEFA), was the recent of such attacks.
Rasheed’s death followed the assassination of Rahmatullah Nikzad, Afghan prominent journalist as well as head of Ghazni’s Association of Journalists; five medical doctors working for Pul-e Charkhi prison in Afghan capital’s neighboring; and the murder of prominent journalists Yama Siawash, Malala Maiwand and Elias Dayee who all dedicated their lives for their country.
