Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani spoke with U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi via video conference, his office said in a statement Monday.

“President Ashraf Ghani spoke via VTC with Ms. Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives and a number of the House members tonight,” read a statement by President’s office.

At the meeting, First Lady Rula Ghani , First Vice President Amrullah Saleh, Foreign Minister Mohmmad Haneef Atmar, President’s National Security Adviser Hamdullah Mohib and Director-General of President’s office Fazel Fazly were present, the statement added.

“Ms. Roya Rahmani Ambassador of Afghanistan to the United States was connected to the meeting as well,” the statement read.

The U.S. continued support to Afghanistan, the peace process and next steps as well as the rights of women were the stock of the discussion. “They expressed their concerns over the escalation of violence and need for an immediate ceasefire,” the palace statement added
