Malalai Maiwand, 25, a reporter at Enikas Radio and Television, along with her driver, was on way to work in Jalalabad, the capital of the eastern Nangarhar province, when armed men shot and killed them Thursday.
Hours after her death, Ziaulhaq Amarkhel, the governor of Nangarhar province said Afghan forces have arrested Maiwand’s killers.
Reuters reported the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the assassination of Maiwand.
Afghan Interior Ministry has meanwhile confirmed the arrest, adding its forces have also captured the suspect directly involved in the murder of Elias Dayee, an Afghan journalist working for RFE/RL.
Dayee lost his life in a targeted bomb attack in Afghanistan’s southern Helmand province earlier on November 12.
