Armed Taliban planned to attack security outposts in Panjwai district’s Charkhab, Helmandian, and Mohammadzo Kalay, according to a statement by Defense Ministry.
The attacks were fended off by Afghan forces, leaving 28 militants killed and eight others wounded, said the ministry.
Local officials in eastern Nangarhar meanwhile said government forces have inflicted heavy casualties to the Taliban fighters.
Atuallah Khogyani, spokesman for the provincial governor, said at least 24 Taliban insurgents were killed in operations carried out by Afghan forces.
The Taliban officials have yet to comment.
