Leader of National Islamic Front of Afghanistan (Hizb-i Mahaz Islami Afghanistan), Hamid Gilani, has welcomed the agreement the two sides of negotiating table reached to break the deadlock said to be over some contentious topics and the progress they have made in the process.
Leader of the party urged the conflicting sides to step up efforts for peace and ending decades-long war of the country.
There were two main sticking points the negotiating teams were struggling to agree upon. The specific version of Islamic law, with the Taliban insisting on Hanafi School of Islamic jurisprudence, and how a U.S.-Taliban peace pact would be a basis for another peace deal.
The Afghan government and the Taliban negotiating delegations have agreed that the U.S.-Taliban agreement, U.N. stance on peace and the will of the Afghan people will form the basis for the intra-Afghan negotiations.
The negotiators have been meeting since September 12, the opening of the peace talks, but have yet to start the negotiations due to disagreements over some controversial issues.
