Speaking at a press conference, the Acting Health Minister, Ahmad Jawad Osmani, said Afghanistan is on the brink of a second wave of COVID-19 amid rising case numbers in country.
Based on daily statistical data, the country witnesses the highest daily increase in COVID-19 cases.
Mr. Osmani, however, reaffirmed the measures taken by the Ministry of Public Health to help contain the second wave of the coronavirus in the country.
“A plan to stop a second wave of coronavirus has been developed…and is being implemented in 34 provinces,” the health minister added.
Wedding halls will be shut for a month to help curb spread of the virus, according to him.
He reiterated people to abide by measures taken to avoid a second wave of COVID-19 infections.
Afghanistan reported additionally 243 new cases of the coronavirus over the past 24 hours, bringing its nationwide caseload to 43,924.
