Scores of Taliban fighters attacked Afghan forces in Pashtun Zarghoon district of western Herat province yesterday afternoon, said the Ministry of Defense in a statement.
Government forces thwarted the attack, carrying out airstrikes in the district.
At least eleven Taliban insurgents were killed and six others wounded in airstrikes.
The Taliban officials have yet to comment.
