U.S. President Donald Trump announced the move in a tweet just days after media called the presidential election in favor of former Vice President Joe Biden.
“Mark Esper has been terminated,” tweeted Trump Monday. “I would like to thank him for his service.”
Christopher Miller, who Trump called him as “highly respected” Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, has been appointed as Acting Defense Secretary.
“I am pleased to announce that Christopher C. Miller, the highly respected Director of the National Counterterrorism Center (unanimously confirmed by the Senate), will be Acting Secretary of Defense, effective immediately,” Mr. Trump said.
“Chris will do a GREAT job!”
Esper’s abrupt firing by Donald Trump comes just few days after Democrat Joe Biden was called to be the next president of the United States, making the transition from a Trump to a Biden administration to be a turbulent.
