U.S. media called Joseph R. Biden JR., 77, to be the 46th president of the United States after defeating his electoral foe Donald Trump who prematurely claimed victory and sought a halt for the vote counting.
U.S. partners and allies such as the U.K., France, Germany, the European Union, the NATO and Ukraine are among those congratulating the president-elect and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.
The neighboring country, Pakistan, has also congratulated Mr. Biden.
Prime Minister Imran Khan took to Twitter, saying his government will keep up working with U.S. for peace in Afghanistan and in the region.
Biden’s victory came just days after uncertainty, as election officials sorted out mail-in votes that delayed the processing of some of the ballots.
