A prosecutor for Herat province was shot and killed by unknown gunmen in Herat city’s Babaji area, twelfth district, said the governor spokesman Jilani Farhad.
Sayed Naeem Sahab, a spokesman for Herat Attorney General’s Office, also confirmed the killing, saying gunmen opened fire at prosecutor Abdul Sami Rahmati when he was on way to office.
According to latest figures, a dozen have been killed by gunmen in Herat province.
Government officials and judicial authorities often come under attack in the conflict-ravaged country.
It comes as Afghanistan had a violent few days and has been gripped by a surge in terrorist attacks recently.
