A cardiovascular surgery was successfully performed by surgeons at the Indira Gandhi Child Hospital in the Afghan capital Kabul on a child who was suffering atrial septal defect, a statement by the Ministry of Public Health read.
This was the first cardiac (heart) surgery performed in Afghanistan following the opening of a center at the child hospital for the children suffering heart hole disease or atrial septal defect.
The child under treatment was said to be from the northern Faryab province.
The center is the first public sector facility and was established at the Indira Gandhi Children’s Hospital in Kabul with the financial support of the Italian government.
