Iran announced on Monday, October 19, it recorded an unprecedented surge in daily death toll from the coronavirus with 337 confirmed dead.

According to health ministry’s spokeswoman, Sima Sadat Lari announcing the cases on Monday, as many as 4,251 new cases of infection with the COVID-19 were detected within the last 24 hours, of which 1,948 had been hospitalized.

The health ministry’s official further said that with the 337 new deaths, the country’s total COVID-19 deaths hit 30,712.

A further 4,251 new cases were confirmed over the past 24 hour-period, raising recorded nationwide cases to 534,631. Nearly 4,771 patients are in critical condition or ICUs, said the spokeswoman.

Iran’s media dubbed the day as “Black Monday” as the country recorded a significant increase in daily coronavirus deaths.
