In the last 24 hours, 87 more people tested positive for the deadly disease, and five additional people lost the battle for their lives after contracting it, a tally by the Afghan health ministry indicated.
The western Herat reported 25 new positive tests within the last 24 hours.
The rest 62 new lab-confirmed cases were registered in nine provinces of the country, including the capital Kabul.
Another statistic has also indicated a rise: the number of patients recovered from the illness. According to health ministry data, 146 additional patients recovered from the novel coronavirus, bringing the toll to 33,760.
