Afghanistan’s Chairman of High Council for National Reconciliation, Abdullah Abdullah, is in neighboring Iran for a two-day visit to exchange peace views with the Iranian officials.
A dignified peace is what the Afghan nation seeks for, top government negotiator said yesterday at an event held by country’s embassy in the capital Tehran.
Peace in Afghanistan has entered a critical phase, he added, reiterating for flexibility in the ongoing talks.
He reaffirmed his call for the Taliban to demonstrate flexibility.
Dr. Abdullah on Sunday departed toward Iran to meet with neighboring country’s officials.
During his stay, he met with Iranian Foreign Affairs Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif during which FM Zarif said that a stable, developed and peaceful Afghanistan has been Iran’s constant hope, his spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh quoted.
“We will integrate all our efforts to help the real intra-Afghan negotiations,” the Iranian foreign minister said.
He also met with Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the Iranian Speaker of the Parliament, discussing the Afghan Peace Process, and progresses in Doha talks, Dr. Abdullah took to Twitter. Speaker Ghalibaf assured Parliament’s support for a lasting peace in Afghanistan.
The top peace negotiator is scheduled to meet Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani.
