At least six Afghan security soldiers were killed during intense fighting with anti-government elements in northern Afghanistan, officials said Wednesday, as violence has gripped the country.

Anti-government fighters launched an overnight assault on Afghan security forces’ outposts in Guzargah Noor district of Baghlan province late Tuesday around 11:00pm.

The attack triggered clashes, inflicting casualties to government forces, according to the spokesman as he put the toll to six killed and two wounded.

As many as 25 armed fighters were also killed during clashes, said the spokesman.

The anti-government elements have not commented.
