The ruling People’s Democratic Party, which was founded by Rahmon, nominated its candidate on September 3. Following that, Rahmon joined five other candidates who entered in competition.
The commission said the Emomali, from PDP, scored 3.8 million—or over 90% of the total votes.
As many as 4.2 million citizens cast their ballots on Sunday, with the voter turnout totaling 85.39 percent, the commission added as quoted by media.
According to country’s law, a presidential election will be declared valid if more than 50% registered voters cast their ballots.
