The explosion took place on Saturday afternoon, October 10, in the city of El Bayadh, 550 km west of capital Algiers.
Authorities provided details as saying at least five were killed and 16 others wounded while six homes were damaged.
According to the source, the explosion occurred when a pipeline delivering gas to the area was damaged during construction work.
