Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani arrived in Qatar on Monday and met with the government peace negotiators in country’s capital city of Doha, said a statement of the President’s office.

During the meeting, President Ghani addressed the negotiators representing the government saying that Afghan nation and even the Taliban are ‘fed up’ with fighting—this should ‘certainly’ be understood.

The four-decade insurgency crisis in the country must be ended—what the Afghan nation seeks for—President Ghani said on Monday as he arrived in Doha and met with Afghan negotiating team.

On his first day stay in Doha, President Ghani also met with the Qatari Prime Minister, Skeikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdul Aziz Al Thani.

“Both sides discussed further strengthening mutual ties and enhancing bilateral economic cooperation, Afghanistan’s peace process and other issues of significance,” read the statement by the Presidential Palace.

The visit comes as Afghan and Taliban negotiators have been meeting in Doha since Sept. 12 and are still working out on rules and procedures for the intra-Afghan talks aimed at ending Afghanistan’s longest war.

The agenda of peace negotiations on issues to be covered and how to be negotiated will be discussed and agreed to after both sides come to an agreement on the rules and procedures.
