Following his trip to Kuwait, President Ghani leading a high-ranking delegation arrived in Qatar on Monday and met with government negotiators in its capital, said Sediq Sediqqi, the presidential spokesman, without releasing further details of the meeting.
During his visit to Doha, President Ghani is scheduled to meet Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad al-Than, country’s Prime Minister, the U.S. special envoy for the Afghan peace Zalmay Khalilzad as well as commander of the U.S. forces in Afghanistan Gen. Scott Miller and government negotiators, according to a statement by the Presidential Palace.
The visit comes as Afghan and Taliban negotiators have been meeting in Doha since Sept. 12 and are still working out on rules and procedures for the intra-Afghan talks aimed at ending Afghanistan’s longest war.
The agenda of peace negotiations on issues to be covered and how to be negotiated will be discussed and agreed to after both sides come to an agreement on the rules and procedures.
