At least 17 civilians were killed or wounded by a roadside bomb in central Afghanistan, the latest violence in the country amid the ongoing efforts for the start of talks between the Taliban and the government.

A civilian vehicle struck a roadside bomb in Daykundi province’s Kajran district today morning, Tariq Arian, a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior confirmed.

At least seven women, five children and two men have died and three others wounded, said Mr. Arian, adding as many as 3,500 people were killed or injured in violence in Afghanistan within the first six months of 2020.

No one has so far claimed responsibility.
