Top Peace Negotiator Abdullah Abdullah Arrives in Pakistan

Afghanistan’s chairperson of national peace council and a top negotiator arrived today in the Pakistani capital of Islamabad on a three-day trip as part of efforts for peace and bilateral ties.

According to a statement issued on the Facebook page of Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation, the Afghan top negotiator will meet with the neighboring country’s prime minister and other government senior officials.

Arriving to Pakistan, Dr. Abdullah met with country’s Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and is expected to meet with its President Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Imran Khan, Chief of Army Staff Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa and other top officials.

Foreign Minister Qureshi expressed hope that the meeting will open a new chapter in bilateral relations, further strengthen relations and forge a common understanding on Afghan peace process, Pakistan’ foreign ministry’s spokesman said.

“The Afghan peace process is of paramount importance for both and its success ensures socio-economic prosperity for all,” Mr. Qureshi said on Twitter. “Dr. Abdullah’s visit further strengthens the amity & fraternity between our countries.”
