Afghanistan has also joined the United Nations and various other countries around the world to celebrate today’s International Day of Peace, notably, at a time the warring sides are making progress toward peace talks to end the longest war in the country.
Dr. Abdullah Abdullah, Chairman of Afghanistan’s High Council for National Reconciliation on occasion of the International Peace Day called on the Taliban to embrace ceasefire and reduce violence.
The government negotiating team has entered talks with genuine willingness for peace, read a statement by office of the national reconciliation council quoting Dr. Abdullah as saying.
The chairperson of peace council extended his gratitude to all the countries in the region and at international level for their support to the Afghan peace process.
Forty years of war in Afghanistan not only destroyed the country but has claimed lives thousands of civilians and is needed to be brought to an end.
